JHINDER BONDI is a 1961 classic Bangla film directed by acclaimed film maker Tapan Sinha. The star cast had Mahanayak Uttam Kumar, Soumitra Chatterjee, Sandhya Roy, Arundhati Devi, Tarun Kumar, Dilip Roy, Radhamohan Bhattacharya and others. The film has a fantastic musical score composed and directed by Ali Akbar Khan.

Soumitra Chatterjee actually plays the role of the villain in Jhinder Bandi - a rare role for Soumitra.

Jhinder Bandi is a Bengali adaptation of the Hollywood English classic movie The Prisoner Of Zenda. The original 1937 English movie was actually remade in a 1952 English movie of the same title, before the 1961 Bengali remake. The Bengali remake notably credits Anthony Hope for the story. The 1937 and 1952 Hollywood films starred Ronald Colman, Madeleine Carroll, C. Aubrey Smith, Raymond Massey, Mary Astor, and were directed by John Cromwell, Richard Thorpe and W.S. Van Dyke.
